Cooling Season Begins May 1st

Assistance under the Low-Income Residential Cooling Program is available to LIHEAP-eligible households. Qualified households can receive a window or portable air conditioner or repairs to a central AC unit.  The program is open to both renters and homeowners, but central AC repairs are only available to homeowners.

To qualify, you must be age 60 or older OR have a documented medical need that puts your health at risk from extreme heat.  You must also be on LIHEAP (fuel assistance) OR be LIHEAP eligible and reside in one of the following North Dakota counties:  Grand Forks, Nelson, Pembina, or Walsh.

Individuals aged 60 and older do not need to provide documentation of medical need. Younger individuals must provide a signed statement from a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or public health nurse verifying their medical condition and the need for a cooled living space.

Current LIHEAP households must provide a copy of their LIHEAP approval letter for verification of eligibility.  Households that are NOT currently on LIHEAP must contact their local human services office to obtain a letter of income eligibility.

Call Pam at 701-746-5431 to request an application.
